Neuropsychology
Dean Health System's Neuropsychology specialists (neuropsychologists) evaluate and treat behavioral changes and cognitive functioning (attention, language, memory, etc.) and that occur in people with brain diseases, neurological disorders, or brain injury. They also assess neurodevelopmental disorders (learning problems, behavioral disorders, pervasive developmental disorders, etc.).
Using
a thorough review of medical and academic history,
behavioral observations, and testing, Dean’s
neuropsychology team develop treatment or rehabilitation plans
and goals that
are
tailored
to the patient’s specific needs.
They assess children and adults with sensory-motor/perceptual disturbance, intellectual deficiencies, attention and memory problems, as well as language difficulties related to congenital problems, neurodevelopmental conditions, chronic medical problems, neurological disorders, psychiatric illness, and acquired brain injury.
Dean's neuropsychologists also provide supportive counseling for patients and their families to help deal with adjustment issues. They work closely with clinical psychiatrists, neurologists and neurosurgeons for consultation and management of each patient's condition, and to improve their quality of life.
