Prenatal
Care for Moms-to-Be
Pregnancy
is an exciting time for a woman, but
it can also bring many questions about what’s
healthiest for you and your developing baby.
In addition to prenatal
tests with your doctor,
it’s important to take care of yourself
every day during your pregnancy.
Prenatal
Self-Care Tips:
•
Keep all appointments with your health
care provider. Use these visits to discuss your pregnancy concerns
or problems with your provider. Write down questions
before each visit so that you will not forget
about certain concerns or problems you have.
•
Eat healthy meals that include grains, fresh
fruits and vegetables, and calcium-rich foods,
such as milk, cheese, and yogurt. Choose foods
low in saturated fat. Do not eat uncooked or
undercooked meats or fish.
•
Drink plenty of water each day.
•
Take vitamins, other supplements, and medicines
as recommended by your provider.
•
Try to be physically active for
30 minutes a day, most days of the week, unless
your health
care provider tells you not to. If you are
pressed for time, you can get your activity in
through
10 minute segments, 3 times a day. Consider
taking a prenatal exercise class, such
as prenatal yoga.
•
Do not smoke, do not drink alcohol, and do not
take illegal drugs.
•
Ask your health care provider before
taking any medicine, including nonprescription and herbal
medicines. Some medicines are not safe during
pregnancy.
•
Avoid hot tubs or saunas and x-rays during pregnancy.
•
Do not empty cat litter while you are pregnant
if you have cats in your home. It may contain
a parasite that causes an infection called toxoplasmosis,
which can cause birth defects. Also, use gloves
when you work in garden areas used by cats.
•
Stay away from toxic chemicals like insecticides,
solvents (such as some cleaners or paint thinners),
lead, and mercury. Most dangerous household products
have pregnancy warnings on their labels. Ask
your health care provider about products if you
are unsure.
•
Relax by taking breaks from work or chores.
•
Help reduce stress by sharing your joys and fears
with others.
•
Report any violence or other types of abuse in
your home.
•
Learn more about pregnancy, labor, and
delivery. Read books, watch videos, go to a childbirth
class, and talk with experienced moms.
•
Plan for the lifestyle changes a new baby will
bring. Prepare for possible changes in your
budget, work situation, daily schedule, and relationships
with family and friends. Learn

Sensational Skin for Your Special Day
Wedding season is approaching again, and every blushing
bride-to-be knows how important it is to look radiant
on her wedding day. Radiant skin is the first step.
Sandy Jo Brunner of Aesthetic Skin Care Services in
Dodgeville, helps brides find a perfect pre-wedding
regimen by evaluating each client's skin type and
condition.
"Every special moment is going to be captured
and preserved in photographs that you'll cherish for
years to come," says
Brunner. "We want to make sure you feel confident
about your skin and that you love the way you looked
on your wedding day when you reflect back on it
many years from now."
Aesthetic Skin Care Services
offers relaxing and rejuvenating facials that
are customized to each
bride's skin type
and personal needs. For confidence from head-to-toe,
dead sea salt glows and body wraps help exfoliate,
detoxify and hydrate your body.
"Many brides choose strapless dresses or dresses
that showcase their shoulders, neck and back," says
Brunner. "More women are concentrating on
these areas of the body to complete their look
and complement
their glowing faces."
Back facials are designed
to perfect your skin, especially if you want
to show off your exposed
back in your
wedding dress. For the ultimate glow: sunless
tanning mist,
airbrushed on by a trained professional, offers
a healthy alternative to UV tanning. And for
the finishing
touch,
Aesthetic Skin Services offers GloMinerals, a
make up line with pharmaceutical-grade ingredients,
natural high pigment minerals and the power of
antioxidants.
"My brides-to-be love that they can choose a
mineral-based makeup that not only makes them look
great, but
makes them feel great knowing they are taking care of their
skin," says Brunner. "We will help
you achieve a glamorous but completely natural
appearance that
looks great in person and in your photographs."

Berry
Tasty Recipes
Spring
has sprung! This means an increased variety
of fresh fruits and vegetables that will available
again. Amongst the wider (and less expensive)
selection of fruits, watch for blueberries,
raspberries and strawberries.
Blueberries
are literally bursting with nutrients and flavor,
yet they are very low in calories. Recently,
researchers at Tufts University analyzed 60
fruits
and vegetables for their antioxidant capability.
Blueberries came out on top, rating highest
in their capacity to destroy free radicals.
Free
radicals can cause damage inside the body.
Blueberries can specifically prevent damage
to the eyes,
skin, and heart.
Consider
using blueberries in your next salad, fruit
salad, or alone as
a snack.
