Tips for Avoiding the Flu

With H1N1 (swine) flu in the news, now is a good time to remind members of your family about the steps they can take to stay healthy. Here are good tactics to use, now and in daily life:

  • Stay in Good General Health – Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.
  • Clean Your Hands – The primary way to avoid getting sick is to wash your hands often with soap and water, especially before eating. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Cover Your Mouth When You Cough or Sneeze – Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it, and wash your hands.
  • Avoid Touching Your Face – Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Keep Your Environment Clean – Use disinfectant wipes on phones, shared equipment and shared surfaces.
  • Avoid the Germs – Avoid close contact with other people with flu-like symptoms, as possible.
  • Stay Home When You’re Sick – If you are experiencing influenza-like illness (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headaches, or body aches) please stay home to prevent others from getting ill.

To learn about the symptoms of H1N1 (swine) flu and what to do if you are sick, visit Dean’s H1N1 Flu Update section. This section also contains state and national resources where you can learn the latest on the H1N1 (swine) flu outbreak.

Feel Good About You! Confidence on a Budget

There’s just something about the way you feel when you look your best. A special outfit or a great haircut can improve your mood for the whole day. But what if you could make more permanent changes that could transform your attitude every day... changing the way you carry yourself, improving your self-image, and giving you the confidence to approach your career and your relationships with a fresh perspective?

“It’s amazing how such small physical changes can increase a person’s energy level, improve their self esteem and make them feel younger and more confident,” shares John Rose, Jr., MD, a Cosmetic Surgeon at Dean’s Aesthetic Surgery Center.

Here are two ways to boost your confidence and give you the edge you’re looking for without breaking the bank:

  • Photo Facials – This procedure can even out skin for someone with rosacea and is fantastic for reducing the appearance of “sun spots” on the face, hands, chest and legs.
  • Make-up and Skin Care – Dean Essentials Skin Care Center uses physician-grade skin care products to renew skin, reduce superficial scarring, increase elasticity, improve skin tone and texture, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, treat rosacea, and more.

To learn more about these two options, visit Dean’s Essentials Skin Care Center Web section.

Dean’s Aesthetic Surgery Center also offers a variety of options to help you achieve the look you want. Three options include:

  • Minimally-invasive Eyebrow Lift or Facelift – “Minimally-invasive procedures are done right in the office using local anesthesia,” explains Dr. Rose. “It’s a really good way to start small if you’re considering cosmetic surgery but don’t want the down time.” A special interest for Dr. Rose, he reports more men taking advantage of minimally-invasive procedures.
  • Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) – The most common reason people get a tummy tuck is to remove loose, stretched out skin due to significant weight loss or pregnancy. “No amount of exercise or diet will get rid of excess skin,” confirms Clifford King, MD, PhD, Cosmetic Surgeon at Dean’s Aesthetic Surgery Center.
  • Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) – Rhinoplasty is the second-most common cosmetic surgery nationwide. It is by far the most popular cosmetic procedure for men. “One of the reasons I like Rhinoplasty so much is because your nose is one of the first things people see,” shares Ramzi Shehadi, MD, FACS, Cosmetic Surgeon at Dean’s Aesthetic Surgery Center. “I have patients who say I’ve changed their lives.”

For more information about these procedures and other options available, visit Dean’s Aesthetic Surgery Center Web section. Before-and-after photos are available.
