Dean/St. Mary’s Nurse Practitioner Named NP of the Year
Baraboo Area N.P. Recognized By Wisconsin Nurses Association
LAKE DELTON, WI—Judith Ellington, FNP has been named Nurse Practitioner of the Year by the Wisconsin Nurses Association (WNA). Ellington, of the Lake Delton Clinic, has served families of Baraboo and the Wisconsin Dells area for nearly 32 years.
Ellington accepted the award on October 18th at the Annual WNA Banquet in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and was nominated by her peers in the nursing profession. The title of NP of the Year is given to exceptional providers who demonstrate leadership skills, extraordinary patient advocacy for those in need of assistance and superb clinical expertise. Earlier this year in April, Judy was also awarded the 2008 Nurse Preceptor Gold Star Award by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties.
“When I first began practicing, the concept of nurse practitioner was new and there were relatively few of us,” says Ellington. “It has been rewarding to see our numbers grow and the profession develop through the years. ”
Ellington earned her B.S. in Nursing from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks in 1964. She continued her education through the University of Wisconsin Extension and became a part of the UW/St. Mary’s Family Practice Physician Team. In 1976, Ellington enthusiastically accepted a position as nurse practitioner at Medical Associates of Baraboo.
Since then, Ellington has mentored students from the nurse practitioner program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the past 30 years, with the addition of several students from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh when the need arose for a preceptor site for area students. Ellington insists the awards she has received truly belong to the community that encompasses Baraboo, Lake Delton and the surrounding communities.
“Working with clients and co-workers to enhance the health of individuals through assessment, diagnosis, education and empowerment is a challenge I love, ” says Ellington.
Dean/St. Mary’s Regional Clinics would like to congratulate Judith on her many accomplishments throughout the years and thank her for her continued service to the community!
