Family Practitioner Earns Young Physician Leadership Award

Physician Serves Mineral Point and Dodgeville Communities

Madison, WI - Dean/St. Mary’s Regional Clinic physician, Aaron A. Dunn, MD was recently awarded the Kenneth M. Viste, Jr., MD Young Physician Leadership Award. Dr. Dunn was presented with the award Friday, April 17th, 2009 at the annual Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation meeting at the Monona Terrace in Madison.

Dr. Dunn is a Family Medicine physician at Family Practice Associates - Mineral Point, as well as Family Practice Associates – Dodgeville. He has been with Dean/St. Mary’s since 2005 and specializes in all types of family medicine with special emphasis on pediatrics, prenatal care, sports medicine, integrative medicine and cardiovascular disease. The award is named in honor of Dr. Kenneth M. Viste, who was an active volunteer at the local, state and national levels.

“Dr. Dunn is a remarkable example of a caring physician who, like our role model, Dr. Ken Viste, takes his passion for medicine beyond the clinic doors to the community at large,” says Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation President David Falk, MD.

Aaron is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and serves as Medical Director for Community Connections Free Clinic in Dodgeville. Dr. Dunn helped the clinic open its doors three years ago and since then, more than 70 volunteers have served more than 1,000 patients. In Aaron’s honor, the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation has contributed $750 to the Community Connections Free Clinic.

“Physicians are in a critical position to lead the change we want to see and make sure that everyone has access to the care we can provide to keep everybody healthy,” says Dr. Dunn. “I feel obligated as a physician to speak out publicly for change.”

Like Dr. Viste, Dr. Dunn has taken a strong interest in health reform that would serve a greater number of people. Dr. Dunn has also worked with State Representative Steve Hilgenberg, facilitating public listening sessions and developing ideas for better access to care.

“(Dr. Dunn) backs up his words with action by being instrumental in setting up the free clinic to provide services to those in need until reform happens,” writes Representative Hilgenberg, in a letter of support for Dr. Dunn.

Family Practice Associates – Mineral Point and Family Practice Associates – Dodgeville are two of more than 30 clinics that comprise the Dean/St. Mary’s Regional Clinic network. A joint venture of Dean Health System and St. Mary’s Hospital, both of Madison, it is one of the largest networks of physician practices in the Midwest. To arrange an interview with Aaron A.
