Madison Sports Hall of Fame Honors Dean Physician

Pediatrician Conrad Andringa, MD Selected to Receive ‘Good Guy Award’

After more than 35 years of service as a team physician for local and WIAA sporting events, Dr. Conrad Andringa has been awarded the Good Guy Award on behalf of the Madison Sports Hall of Fame.

Conrad Andringa, MD has been a practicing pediatrician with Dean Health System since 1968. Dr. Andringa first became involved with the WIAA as a team physician for a myriad of sports at Madison Memorial High School. After more than three decades of service, Madison Memorial’s Field House was named in his honor.

Dr. Andringa also served on the WIAA Sports Medical Advisory Committee for 33 years and as Chairman for 22 years. “Connie” has dedicated time to WIAA State events annually in football, hockey, baseball, basketball, swimming, soccer, wrestling and track.

In 1976, Dr. Andringa served as team physician for the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team in Innsbruck, Austria. He has been named Madison Service Club Olympian of the Year, Blue Line Club Service Award Winner and is in the Madison Skating Hall of Fame.

Dr. Andringa continues to spread his passion for athletics through his children and grandchildren. His sons Rob and Jeff collectively won four WIAA Hockey Championships during high school. Jeff went on to win two NCAA Hockey Championships while playing for the University of Wisconsin. Following in his brother’s footsteps, Rob was also a member of the UW’s 1990 NCAA Hockey Championship Team. In addition, Connie’s daughter Sandy served as the first female student athlete trainer at Madison Memorial High School, while her daughters went on to become captains and four-year letter winners in soccer at both the high school and collegiate levels. Daughter Lisa became the first female to play Madison Youth Football and was also named captain of Madison Memorial’s State runner-up swim team during her high school career.

Dr. Andringa will be recognized at a June banquet along with fellow inductee Al Hovland. The banquet will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd at the Monona Terrace Convention Center.
