Davis Duehr Dean Combines Pancakes & Community Outreach
Annual Pancake Breakfast in Portage to Draw Nearly 250 People
PORTAGE, WI – Stacks of pancakes piled high and drizzled with maple syrup draw nearly 250 people from Portage, Montello and surrounding communities every year! On Wednesday, October 28th, Davis Duehr Dean invites you to its 4th Annual Pancake Breakfast held at Cascade Mountain.
In addition to the pancakes, the real treat patients receive year after year is the camaraderie and relationships they develop with area providers who work to improve the vision and lives of people in these two communities.
“The reason I became an Ophthalmologist was to make people’s lives better,” says Robert Castrovinci, MD of Davis Duehr Dean-Portage/Montello. “The doctors and staff here really enjoy serving their patients and live in the same community.”
The annual event serves up a full breakfast and is designed to create a sense of family and pride in the Portage and Montello communities.
“Everyone comes together for it,” says Dr. Castrovinci. “Two years ago, an area dentist called to find out what it was all about. Apparently, one of his patients was in the dentist’s chair and couldn’t stop talking about the pancake breakfast!”
Also scheduled to attend are Edward Harkins, OD and his wife Betty. Years ago, Dr. Ed Harkins’ father, John Harkins, MD, started an eye care clinic in Portage. Today, that clinic is known as Davis Duehr Dean-Portage and serves thousands of patients. Dennis Harkins, OD, son of Edward and grandson of John is a third-generation provider at the site. His service there continues the rich Harkins’ family legacy of family-to-family care.
“The technology we use here at Davis Duehr Dean is constantly improving and rapidly changing,” says Dr. Dennis Harkins. “However, the relationships we have with our patients throughout the years never changes. I think that trust and loyalty goes a long way.”
